| Label printers that have been specifically designed
for label printing tend to be of the 'thermal transfer'
or 'direct thermal' variety. Other types of label printers
such as laser and inkjet will of course print labels but were
primarily designed for printing non-adhesive single sheet
papers and can suffer over time with adhesive build up in
the rollers, especially were large volumes of labels are being
run.
There are various models of laser printers within each brand
and these models generally fall into one of three categories.
1) Desktop printers for low volume label printing often in
an office or light industrial environment
2) Medium range label printers which are larger, faster and
sometimes metal cased as they tend to be used in the harsher
environments of factories and warehouses.
3) High volume/ Industrial type label printers for larger
volumes of labels at higher print speeds. They also allow
a much wider label (typically up to 6 inches wide)
